Sacramento County Jail Roster Overview

The Sacramento Sheriff Inmate Information portal is the official starting point for current Main Jail and Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center custody. It is run by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Jim Cooper. The portal offers a name search and a separate X-Reference Number search, and the Sheriff's FAQ says detailed inmate information is displayed only while the person remains in custody. After release, the online view narrows to release date and time. No official refresh interval was verified, so a failed search should be treated as a reason to check again or call the jail, not as proof that no booking exists.

Sacramento County inmate records on the roster are jail records, not a full criminal-history report. The same person may later appear in Sacramento Superior Court records if the District Attorney files charges, in CDCR CIRIS if sentenced to state prison, or in a federal or immigration locator if custody moves outside the county system. The Sheriff FAQ also warns that listed charges are the Sheriff's most recent information and may change in court. That distinction matters when comparing a jail booking charge with a prosecutor-filed court charge.

Use the Sacramento County Inmate Roster

The roster has two public search routes. Search by Name uses first name, last name, and CAPTCHA or reCAPTCHA. Search by XREF uses the Sacramento County X-Reference Number, a unique person identifier in the county public-safety system. XREF is especially useful for common names, mail, money deposits, and health-contact workflows. No public login or fee was identified for the Sheriff online inmate search, but the name search requires a human verification step.

1. Open the Sheriff Inmate Information portal and choose the name search if the legal first and last name are known.
2. Enter first name and last name, complete the CAPTCHA challenge, then submit the search.
3. Use the XREF search when the X-Reference Number is known, because it points to a unique Sacramento County person record.
4. Open the custody result and read the booking, charges, bail, warrants, housing, and release fields that are available while the person is in custody.
5. If no result appears, check release status, spelling, state prison transfer, federal custody, ICE custody, juvenile limits, or a cited-and-released arrest with no current jail booking.

SIRENS is different from VINELink: SIRENS is the Sacramento Sheriff release-notification path for the county jails, while VINELink is a broader custody and victim-notification service where California data are available.

Sacramento County Roster Search Fields

The Sacramento County roster fields are narrow but important. The official name search uses both name fields and a verification challenge. The XREF route uses the person-specific county identifier. Because no official sample XREF was located and live profile inspection was blocked by CAPTCHA, result limits, export options, and exact pagination behavior were not verified. The safe workflow is to use the official fields below, then call the jail or Records/Warrants Bureau when a record cannot be found online.

Sacramento County Inmate Profile Fields

Sacramento County inmate records use both custody-session identifiers and person identifiers. The Booking or Registry Number belongs to a custody session. The X-Reference Number belongs to the person. The Sheriff FAQ says each warrant, arrest report, or commitment served during one custody session can receive an extension such as -01, -02, or -03. That is why one Sacramento County inmate profile may show more than one registry extension without creating more than one person.

Sacramento County Custody Lookup Paths

Not every Sacramento County arrest remains in the same lookup system. A pretrial person or short county sentence is normally searched through the Sheriff roster. A person sentenced to state prison is searched through CDCR CIRIS after transfer. A sentenced federal inmate is searched through the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator. Immigration custody uses ICE Online Detainee Locator System, which searches current ICE custody and CBP custody over 48 hours. Federal pretrial custody may involve the U.S. Marshals Eastern District of California and may not appear in the BOP locator in the same way as sentenced BOP custody.

Sacramento County Jail Facility Contacts

Sacramento County jail records mainly route through the Main Jail and RCCC. The Main Jail is the primary intake point and public custody-information contact for many bookings. RCCC houses sentenced county inmates, pre-sentence detainees, parole violators, state-prison transports, reciprocal county prisoners, and federal prisoners under contract. In-person questions should match the facility's public hours and the type of record needed.

Sacramento County Booking Records

A Sacramento booking starts after arrest and transport to a jail facility. Main Jail serves as the major intake point, and RCCC can accept newly arrested people from law-enforcement agencies in the south part of Sacramento County. Intake can include identification, booking/registry number assignment, property intake, health and behavioral-health screening, classification, housing assignment, bail or hold review, and the first court appearance if the case continues in custody.

Health services are handled through Correctional Health, including physical health, behavioral health, dental, pharmaceutical, and ancillary services. Do not send general medical details to the wrong public-records address when the issue is patient care.

Sacramento County Jail Visitation Rules

Main Jail social visits are limited to two 45-minute visits per week, counted Sunday through Saturday. Visit times are first-come, first-served, and weekends can be crowded. A visit may include up to three visitors, including infants and children. Visitors need accepted identification, such as a driver license or DMV ID from a U.S. state or Mexico, military ID, passport, or Matricula Consular. Booth items are restricted, including cell phones, smart watches, tablets, pens, pencils, papers, purses, pictures, lighters, cigarettes, and e-cigarettes.

RCCC has more complex rules for male general population, female dorms, protective custody, special populations, and ADSEP. The official page also notes road-access guidance near Lambert and Bruceville and warns that visitors and vehicles are subject to search. People recently released from Main Jail or RCCC, active work release participants, parolees, and some people with prior prison confinement may be restricted unless consent rules apply.

Sacramento County Inmate Mail and Money

Since November 1, 2023, general mail for Sacramento County jail inmates uses the Securus Digital Mail Center rather than direct delivery to Main Jail or RCCC. RCCC general mail uses the incarcerated person's name and X-reference number, C/O Securus Digital Mail Center-Sacramento RCCC, P.O. Box 20888, Tampa, FL 33622. Legal and confidential mail still goes directly to the facility and housing location and must be marked "LEGAL MAIL" or "CONFIDENTIAL MAIL." Housing location and XREF matter, so check the roster before mailing.

Securus Technologies is the phone provider, and the Sheriff also offers an email-information route. Jail email has no privacy expectation, is reviewed by staff, is printed for delivery, cannot include pictures or attachments, and cannot be answered by the inmate through email. Messages for released people are not delivered. Funds and mail should not be sent until custody, facility, and XREF are confirmed.
